Forcalquier is a medieval town that dates back to the 11th Century. It is located in the heart of the ancient county of Provence and was the family seat of the Count of Provence. Today, the town has a population of 5,000 people and is well served with local facilities including 2 supermarkets, banks, bakers and a variety of boutiques and craft shops. Forcalquier was once the home of the artist Raoul Dufy.

The house is located on a small quiet lane, close to the centre of the town. The house provides 85m2 of living space and is laid out over 3 floors. The house comes with a fast fibre internet connection and is heated by electric convection heaters.
Ground floor
You enter into the open plan living room, which contains a lounge and a large kitchen-diner.
- The lounge comes equipped with a sofa, armchair, antique sideboard and a flat screen TV (with international channels + Netflix app). The sofa folds out to form a double bed (which is useful for occasional guests). There are two bar stools by the window, which have a lovely view out over the village to the Luberon mountains in the distance.
- Next to the lounge, there is an alcove with curved stone ceiling which contains a workstation and seating area.
- The kitchen is fully-equipped with an oven, induction hob, microwave, integrated refrigerator and freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer, kettle and coffee percolator. The house has a full set of plates, cups, cutlery and plenty of cooking utensils.
- The dining table can seat 6-8 people. There is a large antique dresser which provides useful storage for plates, cutlery and table cloths.
First floor
- There is a large bedroom with a King-size double bed with wrought-iron frame and inner sprung mlattress. The bedroom also features 3 wardrobes and chest of drawers and sofa.
- There is a bathroom on this floor, with a walk-in shower, wash basin, heated towel rail and WC.
Second floor
- The Master bedroom comes with a double bed, fitted wardrobes and chest of drawers.
- The en-suite bathroom has a shower, WC, heated towel rail and wash basin.
Outside
- The house is located on a small quiet street. At the end of the street there is a small car park with free parking.

This house in Forcalquier is available for long term rentals from June 2025 up to July 2026. The prices quoted are based on a 6 month stay during the period October to May. Higher prices may apply to shorter rental periods and rentals over the summer months. In addition to the rent, there is a monthly provision of €175 towards the utility bills (electricity, water, Wi-Fi and local taxes). Sorry, pets are not accepted.

Forcalquier is an excellent spot for a long term stay in the South of France, with an excellent range of shops and local services.

Area activities
Forcalquier is a small medieval town located in the Hautes de Provence region, 1 hour north of Aix-en-Provence and 1 hour 30 mins east of Avignon. The town is located in the foothills of the Luberon mountains, an area of outstanding natural beauty. The main square in Forcalquier (Place du Bourguet) contains the 12th Century Cathedral, a 17th century Convent and the town's cinema. The square has various popular cafes and is also the site of the weekly market (held on Mondays). Also in the narrow streets of the town centre, you will find the Couvent des Cordeliers, which is now home to the European University of Scents and Flavours, a training college for hoticulturists, and cosmetics. Above the town, you will also find the hexagonal Citadel, which was built on the site of Forcalquier castle, once home to the Counts of Provence. From the Citadel, you have panoramic views over the Alps, the Durance valley and to the nearby Montagne de Lure.
Forcalquier has a surpising range of local shops, including boulangeries, butchers, fruit & veg stalls, boutiques, services and craft shops. There is also a local hospital in Forcalquier, as well as a number of medical centres and doctors. The town has 2 primary schools and a college. There is also a public swimming pool and bowling alley.
Forcalquier holds a number of traditional festivals throughout the year. The Fête de la randonnée (Hiking Festival) involves over 20 different walks organised with guides over the Forcalquier countryside and the Lure mountain. The event takes place on the last weekend of April. At the end of May, the Patronal Feast of Saint Pancras is the main festival of the town, involving music, lots of food and wine, fireworks and a large funfair. Finally, in July, the Rencontres musicales de Haute-Provence is a classical music festival.
Just on the outskirts of Forcalquier, the Rochers des Mourres are peculiar stacks of limestone rocks formed by water erosion when the area was marshland. The highest rocks reach a height of over 20 meters.
Forcalquier is also an important centre for the cultivation of Tulips, which every April, fills the local fields with an array of colours.
Other transport
There is a train station 12km from Forcalquier, which provides train services to Lyon, Grenoble, Avignon, Aix-en-Provence and Marseille. There is also a TGV train station in Aix-en-Provence. There are numerous local bus routes to the surrounding towns (Manosque, Digne & La Brillanne) as well as further afield to Avignon and Apt.

The nearest airport is Marseille airport (1 hour).

Forcalquier is located close to the A51 dual carriageway, which runs up from Marseille to Aix-en-Provence, Gap and Grenoble.
